For CD ripping, aye. For example, on a Mac, everybody has iTunes
which can rip audio tracks to MP3 or WAV, but not Ogg. But for
compressing game data files, if we offer a tool which can recompress
your data files using Ogg with a click, but can't do the same for MP3
(due to licensing reasons), the situation changes a bit. Personally
I'd prefer if we (a) could support both formats in our GUI
compression tool, and (b) if we support either MP3, or Ogg, on *all*
platforms. Right now some platforms only support Ogg and some only
MP3, so if you want to use devices from both categories, you need to
recompress your data files at least twice.
Note that my own music collection consists mostly out of MP3, I am
not using Ogg Vorbis myself for anything but ScummVM related stuff,
i.e. I am not following a secret agenda here or anything like that :-).

OK. How about memory usage, is there a noticeable difference?

Indeed! We could add a "port template" like we have a "game template"
which has fields like "Port is official since version... " and "Ogg
support?", "MP3 support?", etc. Any volunteers? Ideally people who
know the resp. ports *g*
