[Scummvm-devel] Demo hosting

Hi Robert, all,

this definitely sounds like a very, very useful thing to have. I think
in the past there were some reservations about the legality of hosting
certain demos... I don't recall for sure, but I'd believe that for the
majority (if not all) there are no such problems.

Using .zip sounds to me like the way to go, it's trivial to extract
that on Windows, Mac, Unix and probably elsewhere, too. (Although it
doesn't compress quite as good, I think). One could consider also
hosting a .rar / .7z / .tar.bz2 / whatever variant, but that would
obviously increase the required storage space quite a lot for a
dubious gain.

We could setup demos.scummvm.org to point there. Or, we could simply
host those demos on our own server. How much disk space does your
current collection use up?

That way, we would be paying for the bandwidth and hosting, too. And
we could use PHP to create a simple "wrapper" around the site which
automatically creates a nicer page structure.

Bye,
Max
