Finding somebody who would be ready to maintain it might be an issue
and a major factor in the decision. If nobody volunteer then I would
try that trac and mantis becomes much more attractive suddenly :)
For user management, and as a user, I would ideally like to have only
one user for the forum, bug tracker and wiki (although for that last
one, most users don't have a wiki account). I can understand than the
current need to create a sourceforge account to report bugs might be
a sufficient hassle to stop forum users to report bugs correctly for
example. And whatever the system, if it has separate users for forum
and bug trackers it will not improve the situation.

As a developer (at work) I like bugzilla. We are using it in a small
team of testers and developers distributed in three locations.
When we implemented it a few years ago we had a meeting between the
developers and the testers to clearly define rules to use it and see
what functionalities we needed. As a result we slightly modified the
bugzilla installation to simplify the interface (removing options we
don't use) and make it easier to use. That way I got the impression
it was adopted easily by the non developers (also it was anyway much
better than what we had before, i.e. emails). But with the unmodified
installation I can understand it would look overwhelming to users.
From experience we had no difficulty with the installation and
maintenance of bugzilla. It obviously requires a bit more work than
if we rely on a sourcefore hosted app, but from what I remember it is
not more complicated than installing and maintaining (for example)
wikimedia for a standard installation. Customizing the installation
to our needs was not easy though and it mainly relies on hacks in the
perl code.

Considering this is an hosted app, is it not possible to get the
sourceforge team help to migrate from sf.net tracker to mantis?
I have very little (and not particularly good) experience with trac
and no experience at all with mantis. If I find the time I will have
a look at them from a ScummVM user point a view, but I am away from
tomorrow for a week and will have limited access to internet.
