Personally I don't have any objection to having a splash screen. As has been
pointed out, it gives visibility to the project, and we as developers can
locally disable the splash screen if it's annoying us during development. As
long as it can be made semi-consistent across all the ports - the above is
an interesting point, and would need to be considered.
