Couldn't steps 3 and 4 be skipped, if a similar recording-option is added to the Load-dialogue in the Launcher?

As for your question, a recording would require that SPECIFIC savegame to be loaded anyway, which means that
the savegame should really be part of the recording (as if it is replaced, the recording would be invalid). What you would
need in that case, is an interface that allows you to stream that savegame into the engine on load.

AFAIK, the Launcher only knows about slots when loading anyhow, which means that the filename that was stored is
identified by the slot anyhow, with an engine-dependent filename-scheme.
