Hi all,
this is a status update regarding our current release cycle aiming
towards ScummVM 2.6.0.
As a reminder, this is the current release schedule:
June 05 (Today): Release branch (branch-2-6) created from master,
master unfrozen
June 05 (Today): Public testing announcement
July 08 (Friday): Hard-freeze of branch-2-6, allowing only emergency
bugfixes
July 16 (Saturday): Final branch 2-6-0 created, *release tagged*,
porters start submitting builds
August 01 (Monday): Public release
We'll create the release branch called "branch-2-6" this evening at
around 19:00 UTC+2. Once the branch is created, I'll send a quick
notification via this list. Eventually, branch-2-6 will evolve into
ScummVM 2.6.0, so all changes that are /not/ committed into branch-2-6
won't make it into the next stable release.
This means that in general focus should be towardings fixing any bugs.
All bugfixes have to be done in the /master/ branch and then
cherry-picked into /branch-2-6/. Please be careful when cherry-picking
into the release branch since we'd like to avoid any new regressions.
Also, please be careful to only backport bugfixes. Any new features (or
even engines) are *not allowed* to be cherry-picked into the release branch.
After we announced that the /master/ branch is unfrozen, the master
branch itself is open for any new additions. I recommend devs of
existing/stable engines to shift their focus toward bugfixing though and
to lower priority for new features.
Speaking of bugs: I'm happy to announce that our devs were able to fix
the blocking issues I mentioned in my last mail. Since we still have 27
open tickets in the release scope, please try to help reducing the
number of total bugs in our bugtracker.
An updated list with open bugs in release scope is available at
https://bugs.scummvm.org/report/17?sort=summary&asc=1 .
