Comment:

 When you say "right after starting", you mean at the point where it is
 supposed to show the newspaper article? For the English version it reads
 the image from the supernova.dat while for the German version it reads it
 from the original game files, so that might explain the different
 behaviour.

 However I just tried starting the German version and for me I can see this
 newspaper article, the full intro, and then start playing. Is it possible
 that your game files may be corrupted?
