 I added some debug messages. On almost every attempt, I get:

 {{{
 Chicory
 kernel.trigger = 7
 Case 28
 }}}

 That is, the "Chicory" line is played, and a kernel trigger 7 causes case
 38 to run. But the trigger for case 39 never happens.

 Actually, I'm still trying to capture what it would print when things
 work.
