 Please try to do this:

   ./scummvm --extrapath="$PWD/data"
 }}}

 If hover text appears, this confirms the portable Buildbot archive was not
 finding its own data/fonts.dat. The permanent setting is the absolute
 scummvm/data directory under Global Options / Paths / Extra Path.

 The .ini is not inside the archive. On Linux it is normally in
 ${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-$HOME/.config}/scummvm/scummvm.ini

 A genuine Debian package avoids this mismatch: scummvm-data installs
 fonts.dat under /usr/share/scummvm, matching the Debian binary’s compiled
 path.
