Dear ScummVM Team,
My name is Liron Barzilai and I am the founder of MojoTouch (previously "iPhSoft"), a small game developer studio.
Some of you already knows me, since for about 10 years now we commercially used ScummVM code to release games on different platforms and occasionally collaborated with some of you to work on our modified sources.
We have a lot appreciation to the ScummVM project and the work been done by the team. We feel that when we manage to get distribution rights and release a game using it - it’s another proof that open-source code can drive commercial projects (and of course a win for the “retro gaming” community). The last thing we think is that any of you are dumb for not selling your work. We read, when we just started, about the Atari case with the Wii re-releases. So we know your pain and although we haven’t felt it like you did, we understand how you must feel about companies that violates ScummVM license.
Today, I wanted to bring to your attention that in our latest release (a new edition of The 7th Guest), that was done in the beginning of this month, we didn’t made the modified sources immediately available to download from our website.
That’s until about 48 hours later, Eugene has rightfully scold me that you see it as a violation. Then, within an hour, our website was updated.
It’s important to note that we do usually update immediately (on release time) the download links on our website (whenever it’s a new release or a small update) and we always include great credits for ScummVM project on all our releases (even updated to the new logo in one of our latest on-going updates).
I won’t share any more excuses. Just our deepest apologies and that from now, I will share the download zip with Eugene (or any other representative you will designate for that) even before so you can have a look at what we are going to put online. If the time won’t allow to do it before public release (like when pushing important updates) — it will be immediately on release.
I hope to share with you better things in the future. Please feel free to write back any feedbacks/questions.
And, as I wrote in the past, if anyone on the team like redeem codes to any of our releases, just let me know.
All the best,
Liron Barzilai
