 I can now reproduce this from scratch; no save files needed unless you
 really want to =)

 When loading certain phant1 save games, a file handle is left open. On
 Windows, that prevents the file from being overwritten, and subsequent
 saves fail. These failures are in the scummvm.log file.

 These problematic saves occur at chapter breaks. At the end of the
 chapter, the game says "The chapter is finished." and "Continue" or
 "Quit". If you select "Quit", and then "Move bookmark to present
 location", a problematic save is created.

 I'll debug this further this week, but now we have a handle on it. First
 time I've debugged SCI with Process Explorer...
